Stay in but party on!

Date

The longer that lockdown goes on, the more birthdays, anniversaries and baby showers will pop up in the calendar. Social distancing means that we can’t all meet up quite like before – but that shouldn’t stop you enjoying a special occasion in the safety of your home.

Having a home celebration will lift everyone’s mood, and they’re especially important for younger kids who may not fully understand why they can’t be with their friends on their big day.

As always, bidorbuy has got your back – you can order all your party essentials and transform your home into a pirate ship, circus tent or ‘Frozen’ ice palace with decorations, lights and even themed napkins.

If there’s a birthday coming up in your family, check out our tips on making the birthday boy or girl feel extra special:

Zoom: not just for meetings

Invite friends and family to a Zoom or Skype call so that everyone can join in with singing Happy Birthday and watch as they blow out the candles on their cake. Unboxing videos are a big hit on YouTube, so why not create your very own unwrapping video?

Video calls are a great opportunity to catch up, or even play a board game together.

VM me

Speaking of videos, with a little planning you could ask people to record special messages and put them all together in one wonderful video that you’ll want to watch over and over again (and you can check out everyone’s lockdown hairstyles!).

Be an armchair traveller

Create an adventure for your kids without leaving the house – with a few simple props, you could all go on safari, an undersea adventure or even to the moon and back. There are loads of videos online to help set the right mood, from coral reefs to campfires.

As a bonus, you’ll also get to change the appearance of your home, at least temporarily – after all, those walls are probably starting to look pretty familiar by now! Order in a takeaway meal that matches your theme for an added taste of adventure.

The street is where it’s at

Get on WhatsApp and set up a street party – as long as everyone keeps their distance, there’s no harm in all standing outside your front doors and waving at your neighbours. Imagine how cool it would be to have the whole street or complex wish your son or daughter a happy birthday.

Make the little moments special

Fortunately, the lockdown doesn’t apply to the tooth fairy, or to the kind of elves and pixies that leave little gifts and treats for children who’ve been extra good. Brighten their day with a surprise gift, or a shiny coin they can add to their piggy bank for a rainy day (like after lockdown).

Keep it real

Of course, we’re all looking forward to lockdown ending – why not plan another event for when it does, so that no-one has to miss out? Being six and a half is just as deserving of a party as turning six! Until then, you’ll find all the fairy lights, party favours and cake toppers you need for your magical home event on bidorbuy.
