Gorgeous springtime weather is on its way and, of course, it calls for a spring wardrobe revamp. Here’s a spotlight on seven spring menswear trends, culled from fashion ramps from all over the world.
Back to basics
This spring, it’s all about keeping it simple. Clean lines and simple cuts seem to be making a comeback. Busy prints are out and a ‘back to the basics’ approach to fashion is in this spring. Here’s how…
Colour pop accessory: Although men’s spring wear this year is all about clean and simple cuts and colours, a colour pop is vital. Be it a bright orange tie, an unusual belt, or an attention grabbing wristwatch; make sure you have a few accessories that add an unexpected twist to your outfit this season.
Light grey suit: Give that dark charcoal grey suit that carried you through winter a rest. Instead, invest in a slim fit pale grey suit. Pinstriped or plaid, you can pair this classic with that bright orange tie mentioned above. Or, keep the tie simple and wear a salmon-pink shirt.
Pocket squares: Fashion gurus agree that dual-colour pocket squares are must-have suit accessories this spring. Look for pastel colour pocket squares with a contrasting piping.
Bright coloured trousers: Consistent with the colour pop theme, you will need at least one pair of trousers and shorts in bright hues such as crimson red, cobalt blue, neon coral, yellow, or orange. Pair these with a simple white or pale grey t-shirt and you’re all set.
Chambray: This lightweight take on denim is everywhere on fashion ramps, in the form of sport jackets, shorts, shoes, bags and even suits! Whatever your choice, make sure you buy something in chambray this season. It goes best with whites and a chunky wrist watch.
Loafers: Loafers are making a huge comeback and are now okay for formal wear too. Get a nice leather pair in brown or tan with metal accents to wear to work and another pair in a bright blue hue with a contrast outsole (think orange or even pink).
Boat shoes: Canvas, leather, twill, mesh or suede, this spring, you’re going to need a pair of boat shoes. We’re thinking navy boat shoes with coral red soles or a beige pair with lime green or magenta soles. Look for a slip-on fit with true-moc construction and rustproof eyelets. Make sure that the lace colour contrasts dramatically with the colour of the shoe.
This spring, less is more. Clear out the clutter, make room for simple pieces that let you experiment with colour and accessories, and get ready for your spring fashion upgrade.
