McQueen, a name to be remembered

Date

1Fashion designer and founder of Alexander McQueen label, Lee Alexander McQueen (17 March 1969 – 11 February 2010) definitely pushed boundaries by creating unconventional runway fashion. With fashion show titles such as Widows of Culladen and Human Chess Game, he developed a reputation for controversy.

Untitled-2McQueen’s fashion collections continue to be shown at the major fashion weeks, such as Milan Fashion week.

In July of 2006 the company launched a lower-price line McQ. This line carries men’s and women’s ready-to-wear fashion accessories.

McQueen was praised throughout his career, even before he started his own label. He worked as chief designer for Givenchy and was then made Creative Director for Gucci, right before they opened stores in major fashion capitals such as Milan, London, New York and Los Angeles.

He collaborated with a collection of artists such as Lady Gaga and Bjork, to name but a few.

In June 2010 a tribute copy of the 58th edition of Vissionaire magazine was published, entitled Spirit: A Tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen. The pages were made from seeded paper, which will sprout once planted, signifying the ongoing legacy of McQueen.

The company also brought a new twist to the skull, making it virtually a fashion must-have on at least one item you own.  They brought out the iconic skull scarf in 2004 and literally changed the face of fashion.

McQueen is a name that will live on for long. He definitely inspired me to take chances and risks in life and to live on the edge, taking fashion as we know it and making it your own.

It’s good to know where you come from. It makes you what you are today. It’s DNA, it’s in your blood.
