We recently implemented changes to the Jewellery & Watches category that many have noticed.
The restructured category will hopefully be easier to navigate for both buyers and sellers and will allow a place for almost every item.
Attributes have also been implemented into the category to easily identify what the jewellery item consists of in a clear and concise manner.
Attributes will allow sellers to be clear when creating listings and also make it easier for buyers to filter through items. This will, hopefully, eliminate confusion or any misunderstanding about a particular jewellery piece.

Each category may have subcategories as follows:

Not all subcategories are applicable to every category and may differ slightly.
We have implemented attributes that are relevant to the categories. Each attribute has various options to choose from. The attribute choices have been selected by popularity and commonness across the site. There is a ‘Not Specified’ option for less common attributes that we may not have catered for.
The attributes sellers may specify and buyers may filter by are as follows:
- Metal Type
- Main Stone Type
- Stone Carat
- Earring Type
- Ring Size
- Ring Setting
- Ring Stone Shape
Most of the new categories are self explanatory with the exception of Fashion Jewellery and Fine Jewellery. Below is an explanation of the differences between the two categories and what pieces classify as fashion and which can be considered fine.
The difference between fashion and fine jewellery
Price is not a deciding factor when it comes to differentiating between the fashion and fine jewellery categories; rather, it is the composition of the jewellery piece. Fashion jewellery does not mean ‘cheap’ jewellery. The reason for having both fine and fashion jewellery is to organise the different types of jewellery we have on the site in a more specific way. Both fashion and fine jewellery can be considered fashionable, trendy or timeless, but will be separated according to the requirements of each category.
Fashion jewellery is a broad term and caters for most jewellery pieces. All items in the Fashion Jewellery can be made up of any of the metals, plated and solid. For example, to name a few: gold plated, silver plated, pewter, jewelers brass, silver, etc. Jewellery in this category may have stones that are created, simulated as well as natural stones. A piece that is made up of a solid metal with a created gemstone in it is considered fashion jewellery.
Fine jewellery requires to be made up of solid precious metal. The stones used may only be natural, authentic stones of a high quality. This category is not as broad and encompassing as fashion jewellery, as Fine Jewellery has stringent requirements that are more specific and less flexible. These pieces are regarded to be investment pieces and can be kept for great periods of time.
