2013 was an exciting year for gaming, with the industry seeing the release of both the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One – two consoles with the capabilities to take video games to the next level . This year the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will show what these two new processing powerhouses are capable of, as the first range of truly next-gen titles are put on display.
Last year footage from Capcom’s development title Deep Down showed some of the incredible graphical capabilities that were present on the 8th generation systems. While nothing further was revealed at last years E3, expectations are high for the title and it is slated for a full presentation at this years E3.
One of the most interesting games being showcased is called Quantum Break which is third person shooter with some other interesting elements thrown in – most notably the capability for the protagonists to mentally manipulate time. The game developers consulted a CERN scientist to ensure that the games’ plot adhered fully to the current framework of theoretical physics. Additionally a Quantum Break television series is planned, and the studio has mentioned that playing the game will effect the outcomes of the show and vice versa.
Massive anticipation is brewing for the next Mortal Kombat game: Mortal Kombat X. The ever popular versus-fighting franchise is set to showcase its 8th generation outing during E3 2014. The developers have promised to improve the immensely successful previous title and the short demo video has generated much excitement.
Another interesting title that gamers are chomping at the bit for is the Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. Developers Projekt Red have made a host of promises concerning this game, which will be the conclude the story of the protagonist Geralt of Rivia. Promising an open world environment 30 times larger than previous outings in this series – which correlates to a 20% larger map than perenial rpg genre-favourite Skyrim – the Witcher 3 might be the next game to rock the action-rpg category.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is another game that will showcase the capabilities of the 8th Generation consoles albeit not via graphical demonstrations. The game features enemies that will remember you and learn how best to combat you. The processing requirements for this radiant memory system are so intense that the older consoles could not contain it.
Many other titles will also be showcased including a range of sequels to popular games including Far Cry 4 (set in the Himalayas), Batman: Arkham Night, Halo 5 and Assassins Creed Unity (which will take place during the French Revolution).
So gamers get your fingers and your minds ready for E3 2014!
