What bidorbuyers watch

Date

In an average week, like the last one was, about 140 movies and TV shows on DVD and Blu-ray discs get sold on bidorbuy. The new to second-hand ratio is about 80 to 20 percent.

When they shop for moving pictures, bidorbuyers are most likely to put into their shopping basket (in order of popularity): TV shows and serials; action and adventure movies; and comedies.

Let’s take a closer look at the titles they chose. And while we’re at it, we’ll include some favourites we at bidorbuy HQ agreed on. All right, agreed is perhaps too strong a word; feathers are still flying all over the office…

Anyway, let’s get down to it!

Television Shows & Series

The Recent buys sections reveals that bidorbuyers buy all sorts of TV shows: comedies, drama, crime… Last week, buyers reached for: The Big Bang Theory, Lost, Modern Family, Friends, Supernatural, etc.

Also worth watching:

  • Scrubs (early seasons)
  • South Park (oh, the irreverence!)
  • True Blood (if vampires hold a special attraction for you)
  • NCIS
  • The Middle

Action & Adventure

On bidorbuy, this is the most popular movie genre, and in the final count threatens even the supremacy of TV shows. The titles bought last week include: Mortal Combat, The Matrix, Leather Weapon, Collateral Damage, etc.

Also worth watching:

  • Fargo
  • The Terminator
  • Seven Samurai
  • Men in Black (all of them)
  • Face Off
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

Comedy

Last week, buyers on bidorbuy chose to laugh to the accompaniment of these movies: George of the Jungle, Junior, The Birdcage, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, etc.

Also worth watching:

  • Burn after Reading
  • The Royal Tenenbaums
  • Pineapple Express
  • Death at a Funeral (the 2007 original)
  • The Big Lebowski
  • Arsenic and Old Lace (old, and delightful)
  • Charlie Chaplin movies (old, and side-splitting)

Last week, bidorbuyers also bought quite a number of dramas, musicals, and romance films. Even one art movie featured in somebody’s shopping cart. However, due to the position of the stars or some other obscure reason, no one bought a western! We are sure that’s just a temporary glitch, for there are some very watchable titles in the bidorbuy Westerns section, like The Big Country (an old classic), True Grit (a new classic), or the always entertaining Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti westerns.

Find all the titles quoted in this post by searching for them on bidorbuy.

Expect to pay anywhere from R1 to over R1000 (for boxed collections). Generally speaking, out of over 80,000 titles currently featured in the bidorbuy movies and TV shows section, almost 30,000 are under R100, and more than 40,000 are between R100 and R300. And if you plan to open a video shop, you can currently find a couple of collections for upwards of R10,000.

See for yourself, and let us know what your favourite movies are!
