The premise of the SimCity games is simple: the player must design and manage a city from the ground up. The first of the series was released in 1989 and was a great commercial success, spawning three direct sequels and numerous spin-offs and expansions.

The fifth incarnation of the series occurred at the beginning of March, with the release of SimCity 2013. Players are once again responsible for the all aspects of their metropolis. Innovations include new terraforming options, a ton of new transportation types and curving roads, all of which allow for more variable city designs. Pollution, finite resources, power allocation and crime are some of the factors that players must manage.
