Winter is coming – it’s time to prep
There’s no denying it – summer is fading in our rear-view mirrors, and winter is almost upon us. That means colder, darker mornings and evenings, and less vitamin D. The good news is that you still have time to prep for winter, and ensure that you get all your must-have home items to ensure your winter is cozy, not ice-cold. Here’s our list of must-have home items for winter 2026:

Electric blanket
What do you mean you don’t have an electric blanket? How have you survived? This is our number one must-have item for winter prep – once you’ve experienced the luxury of climbing into a pre-warmed bed, you’ll never go back. If you and your partner have different ideas of what counts as warm, look out for electric blankets that let you have different settings for each side of the bed.

Slow cooker
Nothing beats the cold like a heartwarming stew – especially when you’ve made it yourself. Take the stress out of casserole success with a slow cooker, and you can simply add all your healthy ingredients to the slow cooker in the morning, flip the switch and look forward to returning home to a delicious, nourishing meal.

Portable heaters
Always take your weather-proofing with you by investing in a portable heater that you can easily move from room to room as you change locations in your house. Look for versions that include fans to blow all that lovely warm air in your general direction, or small heaters that can fit under your desk at work (because being cozy isn’t just for when you’re at home).

Winter wear
If being stylish is for summer, winter is all about staying warm. Whether you work from home or you’re in hermit mode, nothing says winter prep like thick socks, a fluffy gown or even a onesie. When the temperatures drop, comfort comes first – you’re never too old for designs featuring cartoon characters, unicorns or smiley avocados!

Mood lighting
Cool white globes are for your dentist’s waiting room, but winter calls for lighting that makes each room feel warm and cozy. Think warmer hues with hints of yellow and orange to give the mood a glow-up and help chase those winter blues away.

Diffusers and candles
Scents like cinnamon and vanilla can create a feeling of warmth and luxury, and help make your winter hideaway feel (and smell) like Christmas in July, every day. It’s all about creating the right ambience and prepping your home to be the perfect cozy cave to hibernate in. Diffusers and candles can really help here.

Rugs
No matter what kind of flooring you have – tiles, screed or wood – it will feel much warmer with the addition of some carefully chosen and positioned rugs… Start with one by your bed so your early-morning feet don’t get shocked by a cold floor, and then look for rug designs and colours that will tie each room together.

No matter how warm and inviting your home is, at some point you’ll have to leave and go to the shops or to work (boo!). That’s when you can give your comfort and confidence a boost with a new pair of boots for winter. They’re the ideal way to prep for colder weather because they deliver warmth and style in one irresistible hit, so do yourself a favour this winter and upgrade your wardrobe with one of the many pairs of winter boots you’ll find on Bob Shop.
