The genius of outdoor kids’ games

Date

Outdoor activities offer your kids all sorts of benefits. Playing outside lets kids keep active, and can boost their physical stamina and fitness. It also allows children to connect with nature and learn social skills, while the sun is a great source of Vitamin D. Now, we don’t want to take all the fun out of outdoor games, but let’s look at some enjoyable outdoor activities and the benefits they have!

Although kites were popularised in the mid-70s, they still offer great value and a way to teach your kids about science without them even realising that they’re learning. Thanks to kites, physics, science, aerodynamics, weather and ecology can all be fun. Just building a kite is a great problem solving and sensory experience, and once it’s actually in the air, the whole experience can be very exhilarating.

Double-dutch, spell and skip, tightrope and helicopter are just some of the games you can play with a skipping rope. They’re great because you can use them by yourself or with a group of friends. Skipping is a fantastic activity for building motor skills, but also increases concentration and memory.

Ring toss is a traditional game where rings are thrown with the aim of landing them on a peg. It encourages gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, focus and cooperative play. Ring toss can be played at a small scale from as young as 3 years old.

For kids who enjoy being in the water, inflatable pools and floats are a fun and inexpensive option for beating the summer heat. They are also a responsible way to introduce younger children to water in a safe environment. Kiddies’ pools make it easy to keep an eye on your youngsters, they encourage family time and allow everyone to unwind and relax. Most inflatable pools come with repair kits, fun features, a carrying bag and warranties.

Trampolines were originally invented for training astronauts, divers, gymnasts and skiers, so as you would imagine, the physical benefits are out of this world. Jumping improves flexibility and posture and is a great cardiovascular workout in disguise. This kind of exercise is one of the best ways to get your child’s heart rate up and their cholesterol down while increasing blood flow to their muscles. Many trampolines come with safety nets to prevent any accidents.
