It seems there is still some room in this modern technological world for the joys of sitting down with a good book. Whether its via an eBook or the printed version, there’s still something magical about a good read.

So what did we read most in 2013? Let’s take a look at the top ten best sellers for the year.

1. It’s probably no surprise that the best selling book of 2013 was Dan Brown’s thriller “Inferno” , with his now legendary hero from “The Da Vinci Code” Robert Langdon out to solve another mystery in Italy.
2. E L James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey” series, despite being published in 2012, continued to sell well in 2013, with “Fifty Shades of Grey” coming in at number two on the best seller list.
3.  E L James scored the third position with “Fifty Shades Darker”, the second in the trilogy of erotic fiction that seems to have taken over the topic of conversation everywhere.
4. Breaking the E L James full house at number four is yet another in an adult erotic fiction trilogy. This time it’s Sylvia Day with “Bared to You”, the first in the Crossfire trilogy.
5. But E L James will not be denied. The third in the “Fifty Shades” trilogy, “Fifty Shades Freed” scored the number five position. What is it with adult ‘mummy porn’ erotic fiction?
6. Considering that around one third of the action of Jodi Picoult’s “The Storyteller” takes place over seventy years ago, the book is a riveting read, presenting the reader with a moral conundrum carefully and compellingly explored.
7. Another break out from the erotic fiction mould is “The Hustler’s Bible”. Charting the rise of ex-criminal Gayton McKenzie from his release from a high security prison to become a successful business man and motivational speaker, this book would feature highly on any fiction top seller list. Except that it’s a true story.
8. And not content with one position in the top ten best sellers, Sylvia Day features at number eight with the second Crossfire book, “Reflected in You”
9. Back to the world of non-fiction with number nine. Nick Vujicic was born without arms or legs, but despite this his deep faith has enabled him to grow spiritually as he details in his book “Unstoppable:The Incredible Power of Faith in Action”, putting us able-bodied readers to shame.
10. Last but not least comes Mamphela Ramphele with her “Conversations with My Sons and Daughters”, in which the business woman, doctor and anti-apartheid activist records a set of conversations across generations about her beloved South Africa.
