The ongoing pandemic means that hitting the gym has lost a lot of its appeal, which means that homes now have to serve as fitness studios as well as offices. So how do you start? First of all, you’ll need to find a fitness programme that’s suitable for home workouts – it can be free or paid for, that’s up to you. Be realistic about your current fitness level and choose something that’s achievable.

Accountability and consistency

Once you find your perfect home workout, the next step is to create a routine. Find a time slot in your day that works for you and stick to it. Accountability and consistency are the key ingredients of any effective fitness journey. Whether you’re a morning person or an evening person, pick a slot when you’re less likely to get distracted by work, family or other responsibilities. This is your time!

Home workout gear essentials

Once you’ve found the right gym routine and a winning mindset, all you need is some gym gear to tie it all together. Booty bands or resistance bands are a must for home workouts – they’re versatile and easy to store. When I say versatile, I mean it – you can use these for upper and lower body workouts. A yoga or exercise mat is also great to have for stretching and ab workouts. If you want to take it one step further, consider purchasing a set of dumbbells or kettlebells to add to your fitness gear.

Sportswear and apparel

Now that we’ve covered the equipment, let’s dive into sports apparel. After all, buying new outfits is a great incentive to stick to your new regime! For an effective workout, you’ll need sportswear that’s stretchy and breathable to keep you comfortable as you work up a sweat.

Let’s not forget one of the most important elements of your apparel, your gym shoes. Whether or not you’re a runner, effective gym shoes are key to productive workouts. And if you plan to take this fitness thing seriously, consider investing in a smartwatch or fitness tracker – a great way to track your progress and feel good about achieving your personal fitness goals.

Fuelling your body

Being more active is only half the story when it comes to living your best life. It’s also important to focus on fuelling your new, healthier body. While you’re here, why not close the circle and invest in a juicer or blender? What’s the difference? In a nutshell, juicing allows you to absorb the nutrients faster while blending assists with digestion as it doesn’t rid of the fibre. You can read more about juicing here – it’s an easy and delicious way to reach your ‘five a day’.
