Give winter the boot

Date

Winter is a time to hunt for all those beautiful long coats, scarves and snoods you have stashed at the back of your cupboard. Even though it’s cold, there is no excuse not to look fabulous. Since we are currently in the crux on the winter season, it’s only fitting that we examine the trends of winter fashion… well, one trend in particular: boots. A pair of boots is one winter outfit staple that will always be an essential. This blog post will provide a guide for the most stylish and currently trending winter boots (for women specifically), so that you can stay warm while still looking fabulous. Let’s give winter the boot!

There are a number of unique trends that are particularly prevalent this winter. Obviously, your classic types and shapes will always be popular. However, if you looking for a new and definitely trendy pair of boots this winter, you will want to read on.

Thick or oblong boot heel

This winter, you might have noticed that boot heels are thicker. This is one of the dominant new trends that made an appearance among shorter ankle boots as well as among high length boots. Thick heels can appear in the shape of a thick rectangle or as a thick square (specifically for your shorter ankle boots). Others can have a slight curve, creating the shape of a rectangle that grows a bit thicker on the other end, or vice versa; so, basically an oblong shape.

Thick heel boots can go well with any outfit, whether it’s a dress, trousers or a skirt.

Over the knee boots

High length boots have always been popular, but this winter over the knee boots dominate the fashion scene. Not so long ago, some would say those were out of fashion… however, today they are simply fabulous! Over the knee boots are often made of a malleable material to allow you to pull the boots up and over your knee. These boots provide warmth as they cover a large portion of your legs and also create the effect that your legs look longer.

These boots go well with skirts or dresses which you normally wear with stockings. The reason these two items pair well is because the contrast between the stockings and the boots become visible due to the visibility of the stockings. That is not to say that pants or leggings will not look nice; that could also be a winning outfit. Try to create a contrast between the colour of your boots and the colour of your pants or trousers.

Ankle boots

Ankle boots are a must. This classic piece won’t easily go out of fashion. These days, ankle boots have beautiful buckles or embellishments such as embroidered images or patterns. Plain coloured ankle boots are also always a winner. Whether you prefer a velvet look or a leather look, you can’t go wrong.

Ankle boots can be paired with any outfit of your choice, whether it’s a dress, skirt or trousers.

Bold patterns

A huge trend at the moment is bold patterns and embroidered pieces on a pair of boots. You will find that these bold patterns are either concentrated on the heel of the shoe, but they  can sometimes be featured all over the boot. Depending on how bold you want to be and also on your taste, you can decide on the level of boldness you wish to wear.

When you buy a pair of boots with bold patterns, naturally you want your shoes to be the star of the outfit. So choose solid colours in your outfit pieces to allow your boots the prominence they deserve. Skirts, dresses, trousers are all doable options. If you are the daring type and want to make a statement, then combine your bold boots with bold patterned shirts and bottoms. The choice is yours.

Velvet

A big trend to hit the fashion scene this winter is velvet, not only for boots but also for clothing. You will find that deep winter colours like maroon, dark greens and blues are normally found on velvet boots, with the exception of some light colours like light pink, light blue and beige. The long term durability of this trend is unknown, but what I can tell you is that this trend is definitely HOT right now!

Once again, velvet boots can be well suited to an array of outfit choices. Obviously, if you decide to buy a pair of black velvet boots you have more freedom to play around with colour.

So there you have it, your winter boot style guide. At the end of the day, you need to buy what you like, what makes you happy and what is comfortable!

If you buy a pair of shoes because someone tells you to, you won’t wear them.

If you buy a pair of shoes because they pretty but uncomfortable, you won’t wear them. You get what I’m trying to say right?

Keep warm this winter and stay fabulous… happy shopping!
