The Electronic Entertainment Expo, more commonly known as E3, has been known to attract over 50,000 visitors. This year’s 22nd E3 (Los Angeles, from 14 to 16 June) showcases the latest innovations from numerous exhibitors in the gaming industry. .

Some of the exhibitors include: Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Bethesda, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft and other industry leaders.

Video Games

The games

Some of the more popular titles featured  include: Titanfall 2, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (Scheduled release – 4 November 2017),  Fifa 17 (Scheduled release – 27 September) and other anticipated games such as Tekken 7.

For the hit series Game of Thrones fans, the role of Kit Harington (Jon Snow) playing the main villain in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare should undoubtedly create some excitement. If that does not move you, then the inclusion of award winning director Guy Ritchie as the game’s producer should.

PSVR-2

The consoles

The upcoming 4K Playstation 4.5 was unfortunately not be revealed at E3 2016. The new console will be capable of playing games and videos in 4K resolution. The Playstation 4.5 is said to be a an upgrade rather than a replacement to the Playstation 4. The Playstation 4 is the most powerful console at the moment, but Sony has emphasised the fact that it can be beaten by a top class gaming PC and they want the new Playstation 4.5 to offer more.

Sony’s star at E3 2016 was the Playstation Virtual Reality (VR) headset, which should be available in the shops in October this year for $399.

The biggest news coming from Microsoft is the release of not one, but two new consoles. Microsoft is planning to launch the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio within the next two years. The Xbox One S will consist of the traditional midway life cycle improvements such as a bigger hard drive, slimmer body, slicker look, and small internal improvements. Project Scorpio, though, promises a new dynamic with advanced improvements. Project Scorpio will be able to run games at 4K resolution and to power virtual reality experiences.

Microsoft has reassured their customers that the new console will support the older Xbox One games.

Microsoft’s other great initiative is the launch of Play Anywhere. This allows you to play the same game on your Windows desktop computer or your Xbox One console with only one title purchased.

With the release of the Playstation 4.5, Xbox One S and Project Scorpio, one can only wonder how long the traditional seven year gap it takes for new model consoles to be released will last. If things continue this way, then we will probably start seeing hardware refreshes more frequently.
