There is no nice way to go back on your word and fail to make a payment after winning an auction or placing an order on bidorbuy. However, if you have to do it, at least do it the right way.

You may have placed a bid expecting to be outbid and found yourself rather surprised to be declared the winner of an auction.

You may have clicked on the Add to cart button on the spur of the moment and found yourself desperately wanting to hit undo half an hour later.

Auctions or fixed price, it can happen that you as a buyer change your mind.

First and foremost, allow us to say it outright: there is no nice way to go back on your word. However, if you have to do it, at least do it the right way.

Consider there two scenarios:

Scenario A: The buyer simply neglects to complete the order and make the payment. In this instance, the seller is fully justified to rate the buyer negatively after the SNC (sale not complete)* procedure. The upshot being that you as a buyer might collect too many negative ratings… and lose the ability to trade on the site as a consequence.

Scenario B: To avoid being rated negatively and to show consideration to one’s online trading partner, the I-have-changed-my-mind buyer asks the seller to have the order cancelled by mutual consent. If the seller agrees, he will still file an SNC, but will not give the buyer a negative.

Of course, the seller is under no obligation to agree to the “mutual consent” formula, so we in bidorbuy strongly recommend to buyers to:

• Think before bidding or placing an order.
• Be as good as your word and follow through by making the payment.
• If in doubt, ask the seller a question before committing to purchase.

Always remember that sellers invest time and in some cases money (for example, for advertising on the site) to list an item. Therefore, every order that does not go through has implications on sellers’ bottom line (not to mention their stress levels).
So, buyers, try to keep your “sale not complete” episodes as close to zero as you can, and the outcome will be… fun and rewarding shopping on bidorbuy, with lots and lots of positive ratings!

*What is an SNC: When a sale does not go through, sellers need to submit an SNC (sale not complete) in order to claim back the success fees (selling commission) that bidorbuy charges for every order made on the site. An SNC is not necessarily aimed against the buyer. Read more here.
