Choosing the top 10 Father’s Day gifts

Dads are notoriously difficult to buy for – that’s because the man who gave you everything often claims he doesn’t need anything. Which means that every year, millions of sons and daughters across South Africa face the same dilemma when Father’s Day comes around: to gift or not to gift?

Here at Bob Shop, we know the answer: of course you must gift! Your Dad is your number one supporter, and Father’s Day is your chance to say thank you for all the times he’s been there for you. The only question is, what to buy?

Now we’ve got nothing against socks (especially in winter) but in this blog, we’ll take you through our top 10 Father’s Day gift ideas – unique finds for the first man in your life.

Collectables

This year, Father’s Day is all about doing a little research and finding out what your original hero really enjoys, rather than buying him something generic. Collectables are a great place to start – whatever your Dad is into, from toy cars to militaria, you’re bound to find something unique on Bob Shop to add to (or even complete) his collection.

Braai equipment

A classic option, sure, but with a little extra thought, you can find your Dad something that he doesn’t already have, like a pair of extra-long tongs, a selection of spices to bring the flavour, or even a handmade chopping board engraved with his name or a personal message.

Knife (EDC)

Your Dad probably never leaves the house without his phone (even if he doesn’t always check his WhatsApp messages), but what he really needs in his pocket is an everyday carry. What’s that? Thing something small, practical and useful in a million different ways, like a penknife or mini-multitool

Fanwear

Soccer or rugby, every Dad has his team. Help him show his true colours on matchday (and all the days in between) with a replica shirt, or a retro or vintage one to reflect the fact that he’s a lifelong fan (and he’s not getting any younger!). He’s always been your number one supporter, after all.

Sundowner kit

What does your Dad need after a long day of telling Dad jokes, wearing Dad trainers and working on his Dad bod? A drink, naturally. Help him up his cocktail or mocktail game with some classy bar tools and accessories – spherical ice moulds are very on trend right now, especially if he likes his drink to be chilled but not watered down.

Distinctive accessories

Send your Dad to work looking a little bit more spiffy than usual with some touches of class for his outfit. Subtle style cues include monogrammed cufflinks or even a signet ring to underscore his awesome presence.

Pampering

Of course your Dad has rugged good looks, but maybe they could be a little less craggy… A dab of moisturiser never hurt anybody, and who knows, if you gift him a spa voucher you may even be able to persuade him to go for a facial. Just don’t let his mates find out!

Maps

Your Dad has always been the centre of your universe – and this Father’s Day, why not gift him a new (or rather old) way to find his way around his world? Yes, we all have Google Maps, but what about a real map of somewhere that really matters to him: Africa, his hometown, or even the entire world?

Age gift

Your options here are endless, from a mug that lists key events in the year he was born to a vintage vinyl record of one of the biggest hits from that time. Other ideas would be a coin with that year’s date (it doesn’t have to be a Krugerrand!), or perhaps just a retro toy to remind him of his own childhood.

Driving experience

Your Dad has been running a free taxi service for years, so why not say thank you this Father’s Day with a voucher for a driving experience he’ll really enjoy. Whether it’s fast laps or offroad adventures, a voucher for a day of high-octane or high-gradient motoring thrills makes a thoughtful gift that comes with guaranteed adrenaline.
We’ve only just scratched the surface of all the unique Father’s Day gifts available on Bob Shop, so now you can be inspired to thoughtfully gift the guy who inspires you… And if all else fails, we do have some great deals on socks, too!
