Five Bares for one charity

Date

There are five of them, and all five are irresistible:

When Lauren Beukes launched her novel Zoo City, she wanted to do something that would change for better the lives of people around her. She approached the Capetonian Am I Collective and the designers associated with it generously donated five of their signature blank vinyl toy Bares.

Six South African designers, Joey Hi-Fi, Carine Nguz, Bia van Deventer, Elise Wessels, Clement de Bruin and Willeen le Roux, undertook to decorate the Bares, finding inspiration in Lauren’s novel.

Their combined efforts resulted in the above-mentioned irresistible quintet, now being auctioned on bidorbuy for the benefit of The Suitcase Project, an organisation that helps refugee children in Johannesburg deal with their traumatic experiences. Most of those children have fled from war-torn African countries and arrived in Johannesburg without parents, friends or family.

Thanks to you, the bidorbuy users, the Bares are set to raise a nice sum of money for the benefiting charity.  Keep on bidding in order to raise even more finds for this worthy cause. You have until about ten o’clock tonight to place your bid.

And if you looked at the photos of the five Bares carefully, you probably noticed that they are not identical quintuplets clad in different outfits. One of them stands out, being positioned upside down. Or is Pretty Wise in fact the right way up, and the other four upside down?
