How to upgrade your workspace in 2026

Ask any psychologist will tell you that the space you work in has a lot to do with how much work you can get done, and how efficiently. We all spend way too much time behind our desks, so anything that can help us beat that deadline and log off sooner has got to be a good thing, right? Here’s our guide to what you need to upgrade your workspace, whether it’s at home, or, well, at work.

Computer says yes

If your laptop makes more noise than your coffee machine, and thinks slower than you do before you’ve had a cup, it could be time for an upgrade. We’re talking faster processing speeds, better graphics, improved sound and loads more memory and you’ll soon see why a new laptop could be your best-ever productivity investment.

Lose the wires

Naturally, you want your mouse and keyboard to connect seamlessly to your computer, but that doesn’t mean having cables snaking everywhere. Wireless or Bluetooth peripherals can dramatically neaten your desk, helping you work smarter and get onboard with the office minimalism trend. A wireless charging pad for your smartphone will also help.

Be kind to your eyes

While you’re upgrading your workspace, don’t forget to upgrade your screen, too. After all, if you have to have a lot of screen time in life, make it on a second screen – it’s a game changer to be able to look at two documents at the same time, or research and write simultaneously.

Shhh!

If you share a workspace, you have to be able to put up with a certain amount of background chatter… unless of course you have a pair of noise-cancelling headphones that you can use to tune out everybody else. Plus, you can listen to your choice of music or podcast – or just embrace the silence.

Hardware is just as important as software

While electronics are a major component of any workspace upgrade, they are not the only way to make your workspace more productive and enjoyable. A quality office chair is essential to protect your back, and you might want to consider a standing desk if you’re concerned you may be spending too much time sitting down (or you struggle to stay awake on never-ending Teams calls!).

Personalise your space

Lastly, don’t forget to stake out your territory with a few personal items, to soften the look and feel of your upgraded workspace. Try some family pictures in frames, a pot plant or maybe just your favourite mug.

Follow these tips to upgrade your workspace in 2026 and you’ll be all set for a highly profitable year – promotion here I come!
