Go for big: Choose chunky, loud, and colourful pieces of jewellery. Go for bulky earrings in geometric shapes (hoops, squares, triangles, spirals, half-circles), or long, dangling styles that drop to the shoulders (or below). Rings are massive, and so much better if you wear them on top of your gloves. The same goes for bracelets and bangles. They are chunky and they go over sleeves of shirts, jackets and coats. Big link neck chains are a favourite, but so are necklaces of all sorts, as long as they are as conspicuous as can be.

Layer, layer and layer again: Wear lots of thin rings, chains and bracelets. Or wear lots of chunky rings, chains and bracelets. Or mix them all, it’s your call. You can do whatever you want, as long as you cascade several necklaces from your neck, wrap a multitude of bracelets around your wrists, decorate your fingers with a host of rings. You get the picture.

Charm them: Remember to add as many charms as you can to your bracelets, necklaces and even belts.

Make them pop: Go for the jewellery pieces embellished with precious or semi-precious stones. Or with pearls. Or with coloured enamel details. All are fine, for they all provide an abundance of colour, which is just what the fashionistas prescribe!

Return to nature: To be right on trend, choose earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings that feature representations of flowers, trees and animals. And it is extra stylish to have pieces of jewellery with some real feathers or seashells!

Coin them well: Yes, it is trendy to adorn your person with your small change! Well, perhaps not quite, but setting old coins (or replicas of old coins) in modern pieces of jewellery is all the rage these days. The addition of a gemstone or two makes the whole look even more irresistible.

And what if statement ornaments are not your thing? Not to worry. Even though maximalist jewellery is currently making such inroads in the fashion world, that does not mean you have to consign your dainty pieces to a jewellery box. Subtle and simple necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings are always chic and trendy, so continue to wear them proudly!
