On Monday 12 December we recorded three thousand visits to bidorbuy.co.za from an iPhone endowed with the bidorbuy app. Not bad for a tool that was released on Friday 9 December 2011!

It is to the credit of bidorbuy developers that only four days later (on 13 December) they upgraded the application to version 1.0.2 (size: 2.9MB), featuring updated graphics and settings. And it looks really nice! (See the screen shots below.)

The bidorbuy iPhone application is free to download. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad with iOS 3.0 or later.

With the app in your iPhone (or another compatible Apple mobile device), you will have almost the same functionality as you would on the main bidorbuy web site.

The launch of the iPhone app is part of the wider bidorbuy mobile strategy. First came the SMS Alerts service (the one for which we got an international award). Then, we developed two mobile platforms (the rich one, m.bidorbuy.co.za, and the basic one, mo.bidorbuy.co.za). The plan is to roll out native apps for all the major players in the mobile devices arena, including Android, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry. (That should happen in the course of 2012.)

The bidorbuy mobile offer aims to open up the site to the people who may not have a computer with internet connection, but have an internet-enabled mobile device. It’s also great for bidorbuyers who want to check the site when they are away from their PC.

The bidorbuy iPhone app and mobi sites give buyers a full shopping experience, from browsing for items, placing bids and buying, to completing the checkout, all from their mobile device.

Currently, there are no features for selling on bidorbuy via the iPhone application or the mobile sites.
