matric dressBid on one of the evening gowns listed by Princess Project SA and help a girl feel like a princess for one night.

An exciting set of auctions just opened on bidorbuy: fourteen evening gowns, worn by celebrities and designed by celebrated fashion designers, are up grabs from R1.

The auctions mark the release of the new local movie, Hollywood in my huis, with all proceeds going go to The Princess Project SA.

That means that you not only get a chance to win a wonderful gown, but you also get to make one or more girls very, very happy.

The Princess Project is a non-profit organisation which actively seeks out pre-owned evening outfits and gives them to the under-privileged girls for their matric dance. That way, the girls who would have otherwise stayed home for the lack of a suitable gown have the once-in-the-lifetime opportunity to go to their matric dance.

“When we were looking at unique ways to market Hollywood in my huis, we came across The Princess Project SA and felt there was a great connection, given the aim of the organisation and the backdrop of the film,” says Charlie Frost of Coppermonkey Promotions, who organized the bidorbuy auctions. “In the movie, Jana, who comes from a poor family,  longs to feel like the belle of the ball, even if it’s just for one night, and it is the young women like Jana that The Princess Project aims to help.  The idea of setting up an auction was borne out of this and bidorbuy.co.za was the obvious partner to host it.”

The bidorbuy auctions feature a stunning figure-hugging blue velvet dress donated to the singing sensation Lira; a lovely pink evening gown made by designer Gert-Johan Coetzee and worn by South African born international model Katryn Kruger; two fabulous hot-off-the-runway dresses from designer Joel Janse Van Vuuren; a one-of-a-kind evening dress designed by Gideon and donated by South African beauty Jo-Ann Strauss; plus many more. Two of the stars of the movie Hollywood in my huis, presenter Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp and actress and author Leandie du Randt, have also donated dresses to the auction, along with the dress that features in the film itself.

The Princes Project SA auctions run until Wednesday 8 July. Don’t miss this chance to own a celebrity gown and to help under-privileged girls!
