Many commercial skin care products have been found to have damaging effects because of chemicals and other artificial ingredients they contain. It is advisable to use simple and natural ingredients to help solve our skin care problems.
I compiled a few easy remedies, but they require patience because they are natural – it can take a while before you see results.
Naturally, I will start with the face.
Plain yoghurt – it is rich in protein, lactic acid and fat, which all help detoxify as well as clean skin. The lactic acid also exfoliates and smoothes your skin. Leave the yoghurt on for 10 minutes, then wash off with warm water.
Baking soda – helps neutralise your skin’s pH balance and it also helps get rid of blackheads. Take a small amount of baking soda and add some water (enough to make a paste). Mix the two together, apply it to your face and rinse off.
Apple cider vinegar – rejuvenates your skin and gives you a beautiful glow. To use as a toner, mix some of it with two parts water. Soak a cotton pad into the mixture and apply all over your face. You can also use it as a spot treatment for acne or even as a replacement to your regular face wash.
Olive oil – it is gentle and smooth. Never forget to remove any traces of makeup from your face before going to bed. Sleeping with makeup will clog your pores, leading to pimples and breakouts. It will also make your skin look dull and lifeless.
Sea salt and baby oil – it exfoliates and removes dead skin cells. Just mix a cup of coarse sea salt and ½ a cup of baby oil in a jar with a lid. Leave the mixture in the jar for 24 hours. Stir the mixture again and apply it to your body for soft smooth skin.
Lemons – they can keep you fresh all day. The citric acid found in lemon juice can kill odor-causing bacteria. Just swipe your armpits with a sliced lemon on a daily basis.
