How to trick yourself into drinking water

Date

I know, there are people looking at this blog post title, thinking: “Huh? Why would I need to trick myself, I love drinking water!”

But there are people out there, myself included, who hate drinking water and have to force themselves because, well, water is good for you and obviously necessary for a healthy, well-functioning body.

This blog post will provide a number of easy and practical tricks you can use to get yourself to drink more water throughout the day. You might be surprised at how well they work; some of them actually worked for me – so yes, it is possible. Obviously, you will need to use the tricks that work best for you, so test them out and see which one is most suited for you and your lifestyle. The shocking reality is that grown-ups are supposed to consume at least two liters of liquid per day! And that’s just the minimum. Most of that liquid should be in the form of water, although other beverages and some foods count too.

So, without further ado, let’s have a look at these tips and tricks to get you started.

1. Make water a part of your eating routine

One of the simple ways to remember to drink water is to make sure you have a glass before each meal. The great thing about this is that it makes you less hungry. So essentially, drinking some water before a meal is also helping you eat less and keeps your food consumption in check. Killing two birds with one stone, if you ask me!

2. Eat foods that are water-rich

Eat fruits and vegetables that are high in water content. These will add to the amount of liquid you consume daily. Water-rich foods include items such as cucumber, lettuce, watermelon, celery, tomatoes, radishes, strawberries, cauliflower, broccoli, green peppers and spinach, which all have a water content of above 90 percent.

3. Get a cool water bottle

You know the saying: “you eat with your eyes”. That applies in this situation too. Humans work in funny ways and the truth is we are more inclined to use something we think looks cool or pretty and this ultimately motivates us more. Whether you are a guy or a girl, a cool water bottle may be the trick! Tip: if you can, get a water bottle that has measurements on the side; this will help you keep track of the amount of water you are consuming daily. Also, the bigger the bottle, the better…this means less filling up and more drinking.

4. Combine water-rich foods with your cool water bottle

If you hate the taste of water (and yes, water does have some kind of taste), then why not add fruit to your water. Not only is it healthy, but it will also alter the taste of the water to make it more pleasant; just be sure to use fruit you like. It will also make the water look more aesthetically pleasing!

5. Use your phone or an app to keep track of your water consumption

These days technology is a part of our daily lives, so why not use an app to help remind you to drink water. It’s a convenient way to keep track of your water intake and also provide you with some reminders throughout the day. For iOS devices, you can use the following apps: Daily Water and Waterlogged; if you are an Android user, Carbodroid is the app for you.

Good luck, I hope one of these work for you. And if you are the type of person who loves drinking water, well then hopefully you have some ideas on how to make drinking water more fun!
