Are you ever “surprised” by the amount of clothes your baby has?
Does your baby have many clothes that are either worn once or never worn?
Do you give away new, unworn baby clothing more times than you care to admit?
If you said yes to any of the above questions, you definitely need to create a capsule wardrobe for your baby!
A capsule wardrobe is basically a collection of items of clothing that you can mix and match to create many outfits. Creating a baby’s capsule is slightly different to building an adult’s capsule wardrobe. Firstly, you will need to do it more often because babies grow very quickly. Secondly, the capsule wardrobe is not a seasonal wardrobe but age based, i.e. newborn to 3 months, 3 to 6 months, and so on.
Things to remember when creating your baby’s capsule wardrobe:
- You need to set a limit for the amount of clothing that you want and the limit includes shoes, socks and accessories.
- Baby clothing basics must outnumber the “in fashion” clothing.
- You must have clothing to suit all weather conditions.
Here are some items of clothing that you can include:
Baby grows
- Baby grows are a classic piece of clothing. They are perfect for all seasons. Make sure to include both long and short sleeve baby grows.
Leggings/pull on pants
- Make sure to have leggings and pants for both formal and informal occasions.
T-shirts
- Include both short and long sleeve T-shirts in the collection.
Matching sets
- A matching set is the go-to outfit for special occasions or trips.
Jacket
- Regardless of the season, there will always be a cold day which you must plan for.
Hats/beanie
- Headgear is an essential wardrobe item. Hats are perfect for the warmer days and beanies for the colder months.
Mittens
- This item of clothing serves a dual purpose. Mittens keep your baby’s hands warm and prevent your newborn baby from scratching itself.
Shoes
- Make sure that you include shoes for play time and formal occasions.
The items on this list are just a basic guideline to help create your baby’s capsule wardrobe. Who says babies cannot be minimalists?
