Declutter and organise

A great way to free up space in your home and declutteris to use the popular Marie Kondo method. Ask yourself if each item sparks joy, then donate, sell, or recycle anything that doesn’t bring you happiness. Sort through your clothes, shoes, and accessories, and donate items you no longer wear (or that no longer fit you – we won’t tell anyone!). Don’t forget to declutter your digital life, too – by deleting unnecessary files, apps, and subscriptions, you can save money and improve the speed and performance of your favourite devices.

Spring clean your home

Once you’ve decluttered, you’ll find it easier to do that deep clean you’ve been meaning to get round to. Dust and vacuum thoroughly, reaching high corners, ceiling fans, and behind furniture to remove dust and allergens. Clean your windows and mirrors to enjoy that extra sparkle, then deep clean appliances such as your oven and microwave. If you’re feeling really brave, pull out the fridge and clean behind it! For a finishing touch, sanitise high-touch surfaces with disinfectant wipes or a diluted bleach solution.

Refresh your living spaces

To revitalise your living spaces, wash/replace your curtains and bedding, rearrange furniture, and add a touch of spring with new décor items like throw pillows, plants, or artwork.

Outdoor spring cleaning

If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you can also take advantge of the warmer weather to spring clean your patio or garden. Sweep away leaves and debris, wash your patio furniture, and add potted plants or flowers to create a more vibrant, welcoming atmosphere. If you have a garden, prune shrubs, dig up the weeds, and add colour and interest with new flowers and vegetables.

Additional tips

Don’t forget to check your gutters and roof for any signs that they might be damaged or blocked. It’s always a good idea to arrange for any necessary repairs or maintenance before the summer rains begin. A clean roof and gutters can help prevent water damage and ensure proper drainage.

Remember, spring cleaning is a marathon, not a sprint. Break down the tasks into smaller, manageable steps, take breaks, and get your family or housemates involved to make spring cleaning less of a chore and more of a game.  Crank up your favorite tunes or podcast while you work, and be sure tobe sure to reward yourself with a relaxing bath or your favourite treat after a successful spring cleaning session.
