How to make delicious Chinese steamed pork buns
Preparation time for dough: 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Dough ingredients:
1 cup warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 packet of yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 + 1/4 cup flour
Pork filling ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
450g pork chopped tenderloin, trimmed
1 cup thinly sliced green onions
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons honey
1 teaspoon minced peeled fresh ginger
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon salt
How to make the dough:
Step 1
In a bowl, add the warm water, sugar and packet of yeast. Mix well until yeast starts to foam (approximately 5 minutes)
Step 2
Sift the flour and salt into the bowl and mix until a dough forms.
Step 3
Take the dough out of the bowl and place on a floured surface to ensure that the dough does not stick to the surface when kneading. Knead the dough for at least 10 minutes and then let the dough stand for an hour.
How to make the pork filling:
Step 1
Add the five-spice powder, pork tenderloin, green onions, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, soy sauce, honey, ginger, garlic and salt into bowl and mix well.
Step 2
Bake the mixture in an oven proof dish at a 180 degrees celsius for 15-20 minutes
How to make the steamed buns:
Step 1
Once you have decided on how big you want your buns to be, divide the dough into even balls and roll them flat. Place a tablespoon of the pork filling in the middle of the dough and then roll the dough around until the mixture is completely covered by the dough.
Step 2
Place the buns in a steamer and steam the buns for 5-10 minutes until dough is cooked.
Plate and serve immediately.
